The 2025 Wood Buffalo Excellence in Arts Awards recipients have been announced. Each nominee represents the creativity, resilience, and passion that make our arts community shine. This year, M’Guphynn’s own Matt Salem won Media artist of the year.
Rendering Visions Premiere
On November 6th, Rendering Visions will premiere in Fort McMurray at the Suncor Centre for the Performing Arts. The film is three plus years in the making, featuring over a dozen artists. In director Ashley Laurenson’s own words, “Fort McMurray isn’t just the home of the oil and gas industry, but also a place for a growing arts community.”

Ashley turned her sights to the stage... backstage that is, designing costumes and props for previous Waypoints Dinner Theatre shows: AHOY! A Pirate's Life for Me! and Ultimate Reality: 90's Edition! with Theatre; Just Because. She also has dabbled in set design on Keyano Theatre Company's Drama Force shows, Disney's Moana Jr. and Disney's Newsies Jr.-

“I think that recognizing the heritage of the region is more important than ever now,” said Matt Salem, marketing coordinator for M’Guphynn. “There has been a lot that has come to light recently and I think it’s important to shed an educational light on history.”
